High Speed Rotary Punching Machines for the Steel Filter Tube Industry

Why use rotary punching machines in your steel filter tube roll forming or spiral tube lines? High speed rotary punching machines take the place of slower and more expensive punch presses and stock feeders and do it in less floor space and with less noise!

One of the challenges in making rotary punching machines for the steel filter tube industry is to engineer dense continuous pattern rotary punching tooling that will produce high quality products with minimal burrs and at the same time operate at high speeds (up to 300 fpm) with minimal rotary die maintenance.

Hill Engineering’s over fifty years of rotary punching machine design and build experience can handle this kind of a requirement. We choose the right concept for each application. Our background is precision die making and those are the same design and build skills we bring to our rotary punching machine building.

Oil Filter Punch

Rotary punching units with a dense continuous pattern like the pattern shown here used for producing steel oil filters, use a one piece die roll (no die bushings) in order to maintain strength and create a very dense hole pattern. The rotary punching machines are designed with vertically adjustable centers between the roll shafts so that they can be brought back into perfect registry after the sharpening of the punches & die roll.

Spiral Helix

Rotary punching units are designed to operate efficiently at whatever line speed the spiral filter tube roll former runs. These units can be of stand-alone design with a “free loop” of punched steel running from it into the roll former, or it can be put in line on an extension of the spiral tubing machine base and operate as a simple pull-through puncher as shown here.

Aftermarket Support

Regardless of which Hill Engineering model or service, contract manufacturers can depend on Formtek for the aftermarket support, whether it is replacement parts, retrofits, or upgrades of existing equipment.
