Estimating Tonnage Requirements

Use this basic formula to estimate your tonnage requirements:

(T × L × S) ÷ 2,000 = Required Tonnage

Where:

  • T = Decimal thickness of material in inches
  • L = Length of cut in inches
  • S = Shear strength of material in PSI
  • 1 Ton = 2,000 pounds

Note:  Tool or die design can modify the results obtained by this basic formula.

Apply your Air Consumption Factor to the formula below:

Air Consumption Factor × Length of Stroke × Strokes per Minute = Estimate SCFM
